Called Forward: Learning as Calling

At Malone University, your academic journey carries deeper purpose!

Rooted in the tradition of the Evangelical Friends Church, we believe education should shape both your mind and your faith. Here, you’re not just earning a degree; but learning to love Truth, ask deeper questions, and grow into a person marked by wisdom, discernment, and intellectual curiosity.

Your classes will challenge you to engage the ideas, cultures, and traditions that have shaped our world, from the natural and social sciences to the fine arts and humanities. You’ll think critically and creatively, wrestle with diverse perspectives, and explore how your chosen field connects to a bigger story. Along the way, you’ll sharpen your ability to communicate clearly, solve problems thoughtfully, and pursue excellence in your discipline while discovering how your gifts and passions point toward meaningful work across several communities.

Most importantly, your education will help you integrate faith with every part of life. As you explore Scripture, Christian history, and important ethical questions, you’ll discover that learning is lifelong formation, shaping who you are becoming. At Malone, academics are part of God’s work in you, preparing you to serve with integrity, compassion, and courage wherever you are called.

The Essentials: Review Your Financial Aid Package

Another important step is taking time to review your financial aid package and talk through it with your admissions counselor. Your counselor is here to help you and your family understand how scholarships, grants, and other aid work together to make a Malone education possible.

If you have questions about your award, want to explore additional opportunities, or simply want help walking through the numbers, your admissions counselor would be glad to connect with you.

Taking a few minutes to have that conversation can often bring helpful clarity and ensure you’re making the most of the resources available to you. Reach out to your counselor anytime—they’re here to help.

Called Forward: Learning as Calling

Let’s talk about comfort. Who doesn’t appreciate the certainty of knowing what’s ahead? Especially in new seasons, comfort feels like a steady foundation, something familiar to stand on as we grow. When things feel comfortable, we adapt more quickly and move forward with confidence.

But while comfort is a gift, it’s not our final destination. God often calls us beyond what feels safe and familiar. In 2 Timothy 1:7, the Apostle Paul reminds us, “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.” As the world around us continues to change, we are invited to step forward in faith, even when that means embracing uncertainty and releasing control so God can work fully through us.

At Malone, there will be moments in your college journey that stretch you beyond your comfort zone — and that’s part of the growth. You may face challenges, setbacks, and even failure along the way, but none of it surprises the Lord. In an ever-changing world, God remains constant. We’re here to meet you where you are, walk alongside you through every season, and encourage you to trust Him as He shapes you into who you’re becoming in His calling on your life!

The Essentials: Filling out your Housing Form

Filling out your housing form is a major milestone—it’s where your life on campus really begins to take shape. This isn’t just paperwork; it’s the primary tool we use to match you with the right living space and the best possible roommate.

Why It Matters

The information you provide helps us understand your daily habits, personality, and preferences. Whether you’re an early bird or a night owl, someone who prefers a pristine space or someone who is a bit more relaxed about organization, being honest on this form ensures a smoother transition to college life.

We’re Here to Help

If you have questions about the different residence halls, need to request a specific roommate, or require special housing accommodations, our Residence Life staff is ready to assist. Reaching out can provide the clarity you need to feel confident about your new home away from home.

Called Forward: Using Your Gifts

You are likely excited (and perhaps a bit nervous) as you prepare to join us on campus this semester. But believe it or not, we are just as excited to have you here. We believe that every student has a unique God-given purpose and valuable gifts that support the flourishing of our campus and beyond.

Regardless of your major, we encourage you to open your mind and heart to the ways God may be leading you to utilize your talents for His purposes. We want to push back on the idea that traditional church ministry is the “default” vocation for Christians. Our world needs more faithful teachers, coaches, scientists, social workers, nurses, and many other types of skilled professionals as well. You may not fully understand your gifts and how to use them just yet, but don’t be intimidated–you’re in the right place!

At Malone, you will be able to hone your skills through coursework and conversations with knowledgeable mentors in your field. We hope you’ll also prayerfully consider exploring your gifts through student leadership opportunities during your college career. No matter what you’re studying, you can apply for a Spiritual Life Committee or Student Senate position. Your voice and perspective matter!

We look forward to witnessing all you’ll accomplish, both in this season and after graduation.

The Essentials: Get Ready. Get Excited. Get Started.

There’s nothing quite like that first day on campus as a deposited student. At Countdown on June 1 or July 10, you’ll get a head start on college life. From breakout sessions that answer your biggest questions to a family photo station to capture the milestone, we’ve designed this day to make your transition to Malone seamless.

Please note that attendance at one of these two sessions is required for all incoming students. This isn’t just about paperwork; it’s your best opportunity to sit down face-to-face with the faculty and staff who will support you over the next four years. More importantly, you’ll spend the day alongside your future classmates—giving you the chance to turn “new faces” into “familiar friends” before move-in day even arrives.

Called Forward: Living with Integrity

At Malone, we care deeply about job readiness and professional development, but we also believe education is about more than academic performance. We care about who you become through your college experience. As a Christian university, we want Christ’s image to be reflected in all we do, especially in how we live with integrity—not only in the classroom, but also in our activities and relationships.

At its core, integrity means making sure your actions align with your beliefs. This can be challenging in college as you discern what you believe and how to live it out. Wherever you are in your faith journey, ethical questions and challenges will arise. We believe it’s important to engage those questions here, because the biblical truths taught at Malone help you understand how your decisions affect others in your workplace, family, and community. By thinking critically about these ideas now, you can learn to lead by example and impact others for the Kingdom in whatever God has called you to do.

Living out biblical integrity is foundational to who we are as Northeast Ohio’s only Bible-based university. It is our prayer that when you cross the graduation stage at Malone, you will enter the next chapter of your life ready to navigate challenges with confidence in a way that reflects Christ first.

Since then, she has committed 25+ years of service to our campus, including in her current role as dean of the division of humanities, education, and ministry. Called Forward: Choosing Community

June is here, and we want to start off by formally congratulating you on your high school graduation! Whether it’s alongside classmates or at home with your family, this milestone is a noteworthy reminder of how God is working in your life and preparing you for the next steps of joining us here at Malone.

While the graduation season brings new beginnings, it also brings the big question: “What’s next?” Thoughts about first impressions, starting fresh, and finding where you belong may already be on your mind. During seasons of change, it’s important to remember God’s constant provision, even when uncertainty arises.

At Malone, you’ll discover purpose through choosing community in all things. That community is found not only in the friendships you build and the clubs, teams, and activities you join, but also in the lives you impact through service, internships, and new opportunities for growth. Along the way, you may even discover a stronger sense of who God is calling you to become.

As you begin your journey at Malone, remember that choosing community is also choosing growth, encouragement, and purpose. The relationships you build here, with classmates, professors, teammates, mentors, and friends, will help shape not only your college experience, but also the person God is calling you to become. Even when stepping into something new feels uncomfortable, you won’t walk through it alone. Together, we look forward to supporting you, challenging you, and celebrating alongside you as you discover your place here on campus and beyond.

Called Forward: Becoming a Servant-Leader

Summer has just begun, and we hope you are taking the time to rest, recharge, and reflect on a memorable conclusion to your high school chapter.

Your commitment to Malone is just the beginning of discovering how you will grow as a servant leader. You’ll soon learn that, as a leader, those you want to build up will also be a source of wisdom for you. Our Christ-centered learning environment is ready to help you see the Lord’s purpose for your career so you can lead with humility in the future!

Called Forward: Finding Your People

With fall semester quickly approaching, you’re probably considering all the ins and outs of college life. Between classes, spiritual formation opportunities, and extracurriculars, we know there is a lot to think about. But today, let’s address another, less-talked about stressor for college freshman, building friendships.

To help our new students get connected with others immediately, we launch our CORE 100 class during Welcome Week, even before classes officially begin. This is a great opportunity to help you find your group, including other new students and a mentor who is an upperclassman. Your Course Assistant (CA) is excited to show you the ropes and deeply values the lasting bonds that happen during your first semester. Don’t miss out on social events with your section, because they’re what memories are made of!

Something else that helps with connection is to have intentional screen-free time. Faculty will want you to put your phone away in class, but during down time in the Caf or while walking across campus, it can also help you have more natural and organic conversations with less divided attention. When you’ve got five minutes before class, we encourage you to resist the urge to scroll and live in the moment with the person next to you. It might seem scary at first, but the risk is definitely worth the reward (we promise).

Relationships take time, which is a valuable commodity. But here at Malone, we want to help you learn the balance of time management. As the Lord brings new people into your life, get to know them and embrace them warmly. You only get out of an experience what you put in, and your college days are precious ones. We can’t wait to see how you live them out!
