Counseling Center
Directed by a licensed counselor, Malone’s Counseling Center offers free, confidential short-term counseling—both in-person and virtual—to support current students’ mental, emotional, and spiritual health throughout their college journey.
Types of services and scope of services
We are located in the Randall Campus Center (The Barn), on the third floor. Individual counseling sessions can be held on campus in-person or by telehealth (virtual) sessions using a HIPPA-compliant, confidential online platform.
Our short-term counseling services address common issues experienced during the college experience. There is no set limit to the number of sessions; however, if a student needs longer-term and/or specialized treatment, the counselor will work with the student to find the appropriate counseling services and resources within the community.
Some examples of common issues addressed in short-term counseling are:
- Academic Performance Concerns
- Vocational/Career Issues
- Relationship Problems
- Adjustment Issues
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Anger Management
- Grief/Loss Issues
- Spiritual Concerns
- Health and Wellness Issues
Some issues, such as the need for weekly, long-term counseling due to a history of psychiatric concerns, may require a referral to services outside of the Counseling Center:
- Multiple hospitalizations
- Several suicidal behaviors and/or attempts
- Unmanaged psychotic symptoms
- Instances in which short-term counseling may be harmful or not beneficial
- Need for on-going medication management for mental health disorders, such as Attention-Deficit Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, etc.
- Chronic and significant substance abuse issues that are impairing current functioning
- Presence of a significant and/or chronic eating disorder that has not previously been treated and/or has the potential to impact the health and welfare of the individual
Hours of operation, fees, and appointments
The Counseling Center usually has appointments available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters. The director is also on-call for after-hours emergency consultation on an as-needed basis.
Our counseling services are free of charge for students who are currently enrolled at Malone. If you prefer to seek counseling outside of Malone and you don’t have a counselor in the community, please contact us for a referral.

- Full-length shirt: the shirt should cover the full torso (chest and back, with no skin showing above bottoms. This policy is in place to protect against the transmission of viruses and infections.
- Work out bottoms: pants or shorts with belts, studs, rivets, or zippers are not permitted because they can tear the vinyl of workout pads and benches, causing germs and bacteria to grow within the padding and posing risk to gym members. Shorts cannot expose the buttocks.
- Attire should be modest and aligned with the Malone University community agreement. Patrons who are not dressed according to these standards will be asked to change before returning to work out.
