The Academic Success Program (ASP) meets you where you are, providing the support you need to thrive in and out of the classroom. Through GEN 101, peer collaboration, or accessibility services, our staff works with you to strengthen your academic skills, build your confidence in and outside of the classroom, and equip you to advocate for yourself.

In GEN 101 you will:

Since its launch in Fall 2020, ASP has helped students regain academic standing, with 100% of participants eligible to return for the following semester in its first two years. Once your GPA meets requirements, ASP enrollment ends—but the Center for Student Success remains your resource throughout your Malone journey!

Take it from our students

“The Center for Student Success has helped me out a lot and showed me that I can finish my college education.”
“I truly appreciate the support I’m getting right now. It means a lot. The folks in the Center for Student Success are the reason I am able to succeed in college.”
“GEN 101 has been very helpful in even the few months I have been at Malone. The Center for Student Success has helped me be my old self again and show me that I am not alone on this journey through college.”
“GEN 101 has helped me learn how to study, how to pace myself throughout the college experience, and how to keep myself spiritually and academically on track.”
“GEN 101 has helped me realize that I do have people who care about me and my grades, and that I have a lot of academic resources to help me be successful in college. This course has also shown me what I want my major to be.”

Academic and personal support is offered to all students through the Peer Collaboration program.  Peer Collaborators are chosen to represent each academic department and are available to all students as a free resource.  Peer Collaborators support fellow students to achieve success in multiple areas, including academic coursework, test prep, schedule planning, and time management. They are available for one-on-one tutoring and mentoring, as well as open labs and walk-in sessions weekly, and they work closely with departmental faculty to assess and address the needs of individual students.

Peer Collaborators are selected in the spring semester for the next academic year.  They are expected to work an average of five hours per week and receive a set stipend per semester.

Academic Advising

At Malone, every student is paired with a faculty advisor in their major for personalized academic guidance. To further support students, the CSS offers personalized academic advising to facilitate the transition to Malone from high school or another institution.

CSS staff help incoming students create their first-semester schedules and continue to provide guidance throughout their academic journey. CSS staff can assist students in the exploration of majors and career interests, in the alignment of academic strengths with career goals, and in the access to testing options for academic credit. With individualized support, academic advising empowers students to make informed decisions and achieve their academic goals.

Schedule Changes

New students must go to the CSS to make schedule changes (add/drops) in the first semester of enrollment. Continuing students process course add/drops through the Office of the Registrar.

Change of Academic Majors and Minors

The CSS assists all students who wish to change academic majors and minors. The CSS processes those changes and assigns students to the appropriate faculty academic advisors.

Undeclared/Undecided Major

Students with undeclared/undecided majors meet with CSS staff during Advising Week each semester to create a schedule for the following semester. These students are transitioned to a faculty academic advisor when they are ready to declare a major.
