Graduate Assistant for Communications & Special Events

Position Summary

The Graduate Assistant for Communication & Special Events will assist the Director of Alumni and Constituent Engagement and the Executive Assistant for Advancement with duties related to fundraising special events and Advancement communications for Malone University.

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

  1. Works primarily with the Director of Alumni and Constituent Engagement and the Executive Assistant for Advancement with duties related to special events, including fundraising special events for Malone University, communications with constituents, and other activities related to fundraising for the university.
  2. Works with the Vice President for Advancement and Directors in Advancement with events and programs benefiting the university.
  3. Assist with planning, implementation of communications strategy and execution in partnership with Advancement and University Relations.
  4. Helps to craft donor communications including newsletters, emails, and social media posts.
  5. Assist with planning, implementation and follow-up for events.
  6. Help to manage aspects of volunteer event and communications committees as well as volunteer coordination, including but not limited to, staffing, recruitment, supervision, training and acknowledgement.
  7. Help expand sponsorship development and fulfillment with the help and guidance of development officers.
  8. Learn and utilize Advancement’s constituent database Raiser’s Edge/NXT
  9. Assist in tracking events in Raiser’s Edge and assist with the setup, tracking, and data extraction of event information from Raiser’s Edge.
  10. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Exhibit a personal understanding of and operate in concert with the mission, doctrinal and Foundational Principles of the University.
  2. Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems and initiate and implement projects independently is essential.
  3. Must be a professional and degree-seeking student.
  4. Bachelor’s degree required.
  5. Must be available up to 20 hours per week – hours can be flexible.
  6. The Graduate Assistant must remain in good academic standing (3.0 grade point average).
  7. Should be available to begin on August 1st for one academic year.
  8. Demonstrated effective time management and project management.
  9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  10. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or Google Suite.
  11. Organized and detail-oriented.
  12. Proven effective relational and collaborative skills are required.
  13. A proven ability to maintain high levels of professionalism. 
  14. Maintains the confidential nature of client and business information.
  15. Hours per week are anticipated to vary based on the needs and fluctuations of the fundraising and events cycle; Occasional evening, weekend and commitments may be necessary at times.
