Rebecca loves to get her hands into the soil, creating and maintaining flower
beds at home and doing vegetation sampling (research) in northeast Ohio. She enjoys connecting with nature and can often be heard shrieking with excitement when she sees a plant, tree, bird, mammal, or insect she hasn’t seen in a while (or ever!). Rebecca is also an avid fan of The Beatles and can tell you the backstory to just about any song in their catalog.

“I received my Masters in Reading from Malone in 2005, and am so excited to be returning to my alma mater now as a professor! My husband Frank and I live here in Canton and have a blended family of eight, including our six children who really aren’t ‘children’ any more. Our oldest is an agronomist and is married, lives nearby, and is expecting our first grandchild in October! We have four in college this year, including two who are attending Malone to be teachers. Our youngest is in seventh grade this year at Louisville Middle School, which is where my husband teaches. In our spare time, Frank and I enjoy the great outdoors together including camping, backpacking, hiking, biking, kayaking, and traveling.”

Jessica Swartz, M.S.N.

Master of Science in Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner, Malone University
Master of Arts in History, The University of Akron
Bachelor of Science in Nursing, The University of Akron
Bachelor of Arts in History, The University of Akron

“I grew up an Air Force brat and moved every 2-3 years. My family lived in the Philippines (where my mother is from), Guam, and Japan. I graduated from a small DOD Dependent School in Misawa AB, Japan. I served in the US Air Force as a Chaplain Service Support personnel and spent one deployment at Al Jabar AB in Kuwait. I met and married my husband Steve at Lackland AFB 25 years ago. Steve is currently a captain with the Akron Police Department. We have three boys: Hunter (21), Jack (17), and Stevie (15). The Swartz crew is very active at Community Bible Church. As a family, we love hiking, being outdoors, and watching movies. Steve and I enjoy running and all three of our boys have run cross country and track in high school. I started out studying history, and have a B.A. and M.A. in history in addition to my nursing degrees. I hope to combine love of history and nursing in a future research project.”

David Williams, D.Min
Visiting Professor of Practical Ministry

Doctor of Ministry in Leadership and Spiritual Formation, George Fox University
Master of Arts in Biblical Studies, Ashland Theological Seminary
Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Christian Ministries, Malone University

“As one who is rooted in Ohio and raised in Kansas, I often refer to myself as a ‘BuckHawk.’ I share a common affinity for both the Great Lakes and the Great Plains. Having lived in Colorado as well, however, I must confess that I agree wholeheartedly with John Muir: Going to the mountains is going home. My wife Carol and I met at Malone during our time as students back in the early 80’s. By God’s grace, we have been partners in marriage and ministry for nearly 40 years now, and we have been blessed with six beautiful children and twelve wonderful grandchildren along the way. As northeast Ohio natives, we are all die-hard Cleveland sports fans (which obviously indicates that we are all well-acquainted with grief and loss). When away from work or home, I am likely to be found wandering in the wilderness on a scenic hiking trail, bike path, or kayaking route. To borrow from Tolkien, ‘not all who wander are lost.’”
