Zoo Camp
Zoo Camp is designed to be interactive and hands-on, giving you an opportunity to gain wide exposure to careers in zoo biology and environmental studies in just a few days.
The cost for field trip transportation and admission is included in the registration fee.
Camp activities may include:
- Animal handling & training demonstration by Malone students
- Cuyahoga Valley National Park- nature hike
- Guided tours of the Akron Zoo or Cleveland Metroparks Zoo
- Clover Field Wildlife Care: wildlife rehabilitation, nature hike
- Cottonwood Wetland: hike and field identification
- Walborn Reservoir for canoeing/kayaking and a nature hike
- Beech Creek Botanical Garden- nature hike and butterfly house
- Field identification of trees, birds, amphibians, and reptiles of Ohio
- Guest speakers
This supply list is designed to help you prepare for Zoo Camp. Modest summer attire including jeans, shorts, and t-shirts are acceptable for camp activities. Shorts should be no shorter than halfway between the top of the knee and the top of the thigh. Midriff-style shirts are not allowed. The academic buildings utilized during the day are air-conditioned and can be chilly. Please plan accordingly.
Other items you may need:
- Shoes you can get wet (canoeing and stream sampling)
- Pants (recommended for nature hikes)
- Boots or shoes that are comfortable for hiking
- Water bottle
- Notebook and pen
- Hat and sunglasses
- Sunscreen/ insect repellent
- Rain gear
