Help other people and society
The field of chemical dependency counseling provides opportunities to care for members of our community at their greatest time of need. Malone’s chemical dependency counseling program will equip graduates to value and practice compassionate client care through broad-based coursework and experiential learning strategies.
Opioid addiction has reached crisis proportions in the state of Ohio. Unfortunately, there is a regional shortage of qualified counselors to treat individuals struggling with addiction. Psychology majors who complete the chemical dependency program will be eligible to secure employment in substance abuse and mental health treatment centers upon graduation. Because substance abuse is pervasive and impacts all disciplines, this program will also pair well with the majors of social work, nursing, criminal and restorative justice, education, and other helping professions.
Malone's mission is to prepare students to serve their churches, communities, and the world. The ability to equip professionals who serve populations affected by the growing chemical and alcohol dependency epidemic is one way that our chemical dependency program practically expresses the heart of Malone's mission.
